Before the methods of wear are shown, the way to fold the Zeltbahn is shown.
Fold the left and right side to the middle, then fold the top down.
The shelter quarter should look like a square now as show below.
Then fold the left and right side, but do not fold them entirely to the middle.
Again, fold the left and right side towards the middle.
Now the width of the shelter quarter should be about 35 cm's.
Since the ropes are not supposed to dangling out of the rolled up shelter quarter fold the bottom and top first.
Now the shelter quarter can be rolled
to form the assault pack.
Finaly the shelter quarter can be secured with
the aid of equipment straps (or A frame).
The shelter quarter is now ready to be packed away.
The following methods were used in the field to wear the Shelter Quarter.
Some of the methods required the use of the equipment (great coat) straps (Mantelriemen)
The standard method to wear the shelter quarter
was strapped on the belt with the help of the so called equipment straps.
Also with the help of equipment straps is this method, where the mess tin is surrounded by the shelter quarter.
However, this needs longer equipment straps, or (like in this case) 4 equipment straps put together.
The vertical strap is put through the O-ring of the Y-belt
In this case the equipment straps are put through the two D-rings of the Y-belt
Here the A-frame is used.
Ofcourse the A-fram was especcially designed for use with the shelter quarter and Mess tin.
Another method was with the help of the so called Artillery Backpack.
This type of backpack (not to be confused with the M34 / M39 backpacks or Tornister) had two sewn on equipment straps.
